Victims: Doctors and healthcare workers in Emergency Department

Type of violence: Physical

Event: After the death of a patient with postoperative complication under treatment, the relatives had abused the healthcare workers and vandalized the hospital. Despite the tireless efforts of the doctors, the death was discussed and negotiated with the patient and representatives of the Nepal Police repeatedly, and the District Administration Office, Lalitpur, and the police administration were informed about the treatment. Despite this information, emergency services were disrupted by vandalizing the hospital and threatening the doctors and healthcare workers.

Event: A 23-year-old-lady was underwent PCNL and had developed urosepsis and ARDS post-operatively which was being managed in ICU. To prevent infection, right nephrectomy was carried out but was complicated by renal failure postoperatively probably due to sepsis (MODS). The deceased woman’s kin had accused the hospital and the doctor of negligence and had demanded compensation of 12 lakhs.
